Jarn is a Norwegian shareholder company founded in 2003. The company is owned in full by its employees, and has always been profitable.

We are a small consultancy and software development company, supplying services for organizations, corporations and government agencies all over the world. We specialise in services related to the Plone Web Content Management System, with our main focus on:

Open Source and Free software

Plone is Free Software (also known by the more generic term Open Source) and was built and is further developed and enhanced by volunteer developers around the world. Legal work, trademarks and intellectual property rights is handled by a democratic non-profit organization – the Plone Foundation.

Contribution and involvement

Jarn is one of the key contributor companies to Plone, and we have a leading role in the further development of the software, the framework it is built on and the organisational work surrounding it.  All our employees are contributors to the Plone core, and several are also contributors to the software stack it is built on top of (Zope, Python, CMF).

Two of the founders of Jarn (Alexander Limi and Geir Bækholt) have seats on the Plone Foundation board.

Two of our developers (Helge Tesdal, Wichert Akkerman) have seats on the release-planning Plone framework team, — the team that decides which technologies will go into Plone in the future and which will not.

Wichert Akkerman is also the release manager for the Plone 3 series.

Community ties

Jarn has close ties with the friendly and open Plone community, and we are actively involved in the workings of the community, be it managing Plone releases, arranging sprints and conferences, coordinating committees or just being generally present.

April 2006 we hosted the Plone Archipelagosprint, bringing together 40 expert Plone developers from around the world, defining the development of Plone 3.

Our staff frequently speak at Plone– and other technology conferences. At any given Plone-conference, one can expect to find at least 5 talks from Jarn staff.
